15 year old black teenager is mentally challenged, his aunt that took care of him died in 1935, he begged a white lawyer couple, Marvin and Maddie, to adopt him. the kind-hearted couple, built a room for Joe in the backyard. They had a five year old daughter, Margaret, and treated Joe like their own son. Joe and Maragret grew up together. Joe and Margaret called the couple daddy and mommy, both of them opened holiday presents, and celebrated their birthdays together. Back then in southern america, black people and white people couldn't go places together. On Saturdays, Marvin would teach Sunday's sermon, to Joe. During the week, Marvin would his office, and Joe would often go with him. When they walked, Marvin would go in front and Joe would go behind. When Marvin worked, Joe would work small jobs, and when Marvin returned home, Joe went with him. When Marvin retired, he still did small jobs in the company, and Joe would accompany him to the office. When Marvin died, Joe refused to eat and drink, and lost a lot of weight. Joe took care of old Maddie and would treat her very nicely When Maddie was unable to care for her self, Margaret and her doctor husband went to live with Joe, and help him take care of Maddie. Maddie was 90 years old when she died, and Joe was 72. When she died, he said, "Mommy also went to Jesus." Afterwards, Margaret still cared for Joe. The Marvin family could overcome race, background, with all their heart they loved helpless, disabled Joe, because their heart was full of God's love. His love is unconditional and never stops.
